Les pierres de tes palais se disjoignent
(The stones of your palace are falling apart)_ phrase from Gustave Flaubert's book "Memoires d'un fou"

2020

Inspired by baroque and renaissance palaces, in this series I wanted my characters to reside in beautiful, extravagant mansions, mostly inspired by existing famous lamdmarks of neoclassical architecture, such as the Opera Garnier in Paris, the Caserta Palace in Italy, the Versailles, the Château de Fontainebleau. The  female characters are lost in their own sphere of existence , each on its(her) own dream, detached from the surroundings , unable to connenct with each other or with reality.  As I always find deep inpiration from litterature, I wanted my paintings to have the sensation of a dream, a quite absurd one, as well as to recreate the atmosphere and the feeling of classic french litterature of 19th century.
